Lord Henry Avery
My name is Henry Avery and I am the Vice Admiral of the English Navy. I am a good friend of Queen Elizabeth I and Francis Drake, as I fought with him in many battles. In 1588, we defeated the Spanish Armada and I was in command of the ship Victory.
I am thirty-five years old, so I am middle-aged. However, I look older since I have some deep wrinkles around my eyes, but this is because of the long battles that I fought. I am medium-height and slim but also rather muscular - because I train hard every day – and broad-shouldered. So, my arms and legs are stocky and quite shaggy. My hair is fairly long – in fashion nowadays - , curly and dark hazel, with sideburns and a thick, bushy moustache. All the women love it! I didn’t have it when I was young. My face is oval, quite sunburned and rough as I spend most of the time outdoors. My eyes are almond-shaped and black, almost always sparkling, with bushy eyebrows. My nose is strong and, strange to say, all my teeth are white and shiny. Surprisingly, my hands are smooth and pale. The most special thing about me is the scar that I have in my neck. I got it during the battle of Ponta Delgada in the Azores, on 26 July 1582 fighting with the Portuguese against the Spanish navy. We boarded a Spanish ship and one sailor tried to slash my throat. He couldn’t as I stabbed my sword in his heart.
